Public Figures

Britain’s official statistics

The edition of 7 October 2026

Nothing notable published today.

We would rather send you this than manufacture significance.

Only one of our datasets was due a check this morning: the Met Office's historic station files, which gained September 2026 on 2 October. All 37 files came back byte-for-byte identical to the copies we archived yesterday. Nothing was revised, and the September, August and July figures all remain provisional, as the Met Office marks them.

Nothing else we follow published today: the two releases on the government statistics calendar this morning were a Northern Ireland custody visiting report and a Marine Management Organisation fisheries dataset, neither of which we cover, and nothing on our shelf of developing stories is ready to run.

The next fresh data we expect is the September prison bulletins and the August house prices in the coming fortnight, followed by the August airport figures, and the Met Office's finalisation of the summer's provisional months whenever it comes.
