Public Figures

Britain’s official statistics

The edition of 1 September 2026

Nothing notable published today.

We would rather send you this than manufacture significance.

The September release calendar opened today: the Met Office station files were fetched for the first time since 11 August, the first scheduled fetch of the month. They came back unchanged — every one of the 37 station files is byte-for-byte the file we archived three weeks ago, so August 2026 has not yet been added and the provisional July figures stand unrevised. The window runs to the 8th; the August data is expected within it. Nothing new means nothing to report: the driest-July records those files carry were this letter's edition of 11 August.

The single announcement on today's statistics calendar, HMRC's business floorspace figures, is not a series we cover.

Two standing gaps, for the record. MHCLG's new temporary accommodation figures, published on 20 August in a changed file format, still await a human reading before our software will parse them; until then the homelessness series ends at the quarter we already hold. And the August prison bulletin never appeared in the Ministry of Justice's usual window, so we watch for it as September's window opens on the 8th.
