Public Figures

Britain’s official statistics

The edition of 28 August 2026

Nothing notable published today.

We would rather send you this than manufacture significance.

Friday, and nothing was due: no dataset is in a release window this late in the month, and none of the three releases on today's statistics calendar — HMRC's alcohol and tobacco bulletins and the Marine Management Organisation's monthly sea fisheries figures — is a series we cover. So nothing was fetched, and there was nothing to compare. The quiet stretch runs until the September releases begin; the first scheduled fetch is the Met Office station data at the start of next week.

Two standing gaps, for the record. MHCLG's new temporary accommodation figures, published on 20 August in a changed file format, still await a human reading before our software will parse them; until then the homelessness series ends at the quarter we already hold. And the August prison bulletin never appeared in the Ministry of Justice's usual window, so we watch the announcements calendar for it. September will be the test of both: the prison window reopens on the 8th, and the temporary accommodation file needs a human before then.
