The edition of 25 August 2026
Nothing notable published today.
We would rather send you this than manufacture significance.
Tuesday, and for the first time since this letter began, no dataset was due: every monthly release window has closed — house prices and the claimant count ended theirs yesterday — and the announcements calendar was empty, with no UK statistics publisher scheduling anything for today. So nothing was fetched, and there was nothing to compare. The quiet stretch runs until the September releases begin; the first scheduled fetch is the Met Office station data at the start of the month.
Two standing gaps, for the record. MHCLG's new temporary accommodation figures, published last Wednesday in a changed file format, still await a human reading before our software will parse them; until then the homelessness series ends at the quarter we already hold. And the August prison bulletin never appeared in the Ministry of Justice's usual window, so we watch the announcements calendar for it.
