Britain’s official statistics

The edition of 24 August 2026

Nothing notable published today.

We would rather send you this than manufacture significance.

Monday, and the announcements calendar was empty — no UK statistics publisher had anything scheduled. Two of our eight datasets were still inside their monthly release windows and both were fetched and compared anyway: HM Land Registry's house price index and the ONS claimant count. Both came back identical to the copies we already hold — the house price tables still reach June 2026, unchanged since the release we read on Thursday the 20th, and the claimant count still reaches July 2026, unchanged since Tuesday the 18th. Every value compared between vintages came back the same. Both windows close today, so this quiet stretch ends when the September releases begin.

Two standing gaps, for the record. MHCLG's new temporary accommodation figures, published last Wednesday in a changed file format, still await a human reading before our software will parse them; until then the homelessness series ends at the quarter we already hold. And the August prison bulletin has still not appeared — the Ministry of Justice's usual window has passed, so we watch the announcements calendar for it.
