Two publishers released this morning. The Civil Aviation Authority published June 2026 airport traffic for 47 reporting airports, and NOMIS published the July 2026 claimant count for all 361 UK local authorities. Neither announces through the gov.uk statistics calendar, which listed nothing at all for today.
Among the five largest airports, Gatwick is the only one whose June traffic moved by more than a rounding error against the same month a year earlier. Heathrow was down 2 per cent, Manchester up 1, Stansted up 3 and Luton up 9. The figures say what changed and not why: a fall of this size can be an airline moving capacity, an aircraft no longer based there, or demand, and the published tables cannot tell those apart.
A correction, which matters to anyone who read the edition of 13 August. That edition reported that 77,575 people in Birmingham were claiming unemployment-related benefits in June 2026, a rate of 10.1 per cent, the highest of any UK local authority. In the same load that carried today's July figures, the publisher restated June: Birmingham now reads 76,460 claimants and 9.9 per cent. The rank is unchanged, in the restated June figures and in July's, so what has changed is the figure and not the finding. The restatement was not announced. It covers 516 figures across 356 of the 361 local authorities, all of them in June, and it is set out in full in our corrections log.
Prison population and NHS waiting times were both in their release windows and neither publisher released anything, so the July prison bulletin and the June waiting-time tables are unchanged. The Land Registry house price index was also in its window and was not fetched today, because of a fault in our own software rather than anything at the publisher; nothing in this edition rests on it.

How this edition was checked
| Place | Data vintage | Verification | Publisher’s file |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gatwick | 2026-08-18 | Survived a blind kill attempt | the file |
| Birmingham | 2026-08-18 | Survived a blind kill attempt | the file |
Each claim above was put to a separate agent with only the figures and the publisher’s dataset notes — not the reasoning that chose it — which tried to kill it on the wrong column, the wrong denominator, a series break, a definition change or a revision. Nothing that failed is on this page. The archived copy of each publisher’s file is in this site’s repository under data/ports-airports/raw/2026-08-18/caa/.
